The city of Nova Friburgo is considered the largest producer of intimate fashion/lingerie in the country, according to Abit – the Brazilian Association of the Textile Industry. The Nova Friburgo hub is the largest and most important lingerie hub in Latin America.
Proving that FEVEST is the entrepreneurship fair of the fashion industry for the Nova Friburgo hub, let’s learn a little about the history of how it was established:
With the crisis of 1982, the giants of the textile sector suffered a strong impact. The market contraction led industries to dismiss a large number of employees who, as a means of survival, were responsible for laying the groundwork for the fashion industry in Nova Friburgo. With the severance pay, the departing professionals invested in purchasing sewing machines and began producing pieces at home.
In 1990, small and medium-sized companies consolidated themselves as the Nova Friburgo manufacturing hub.
The then fashion production hub quickly gained notoriety and in the last decades has been seen as a successful example of integration among micro, small, and medium entrepreneurs, in a well-articulated production chain with notable income and job capacity. Today, it produces around 336 million pieces per year, representing 35% of the national production of lingerie, beachwear, and fitness apparel. Additionally, it generates around 28 thousand direct and indirect jobs, with 80% of the workforce and leadership in companies being represented by women. The hub also has the lowest female unemployment rate in Brazil.
In 1992, at the initiative of entrepreneurs from the then established lingerie hub of Nova Friburgo, they held the first edition of Fevest, which became a reference for the fashion sector in Brazil and abroad.
The event, which in its 32 years of existence, was designed as a business fair, had for several years the presence of retail, where visitors had the opportunity to take home a piece of Fevest, in lingerie, pajamas, fitness, and beach lines. In 2023, returning to its original format, focused on business and with the aim of highlighting the lingerie hub of Nova Friburgo to all of Brazil again, Fevest came back with full force and maximum positive impact among participants and visitors.
FEVEST 2025 aims to consolidate its role as the most important fair in the sector in Latin America. Larger, with new players and notably more relevant, this will be the new FEVEST, an absolute trendsetter.
